Aquila // Bristol

Before heading to Bristol for our little weekend adventure a few weeks ago, I spent hours scrolling through Pinterest and Instagram, looking for local vegan eats. One place I came across on Insta was Aquila, an Italian restaurant just a stones throw away from our hotel, with a vegan menu that had my mouth watering just reading it! I immediately went online and reserved a table for Matt's birthday dinner.

If you took my advice on where to stay in my last post, then Aquila is literally just a two minute walk away. Perfect for stuffing your face and drinking all the cocktails before staggering those few steps back to bed. You're welcome.

Spread over two floors, the restaurant is bright and airy with high ceilings and luxury decor. The food was incredible and the staff were super friendly and accommodating. I'd told them we were celebrating so they brought us a glass of bubbly to toast the birthday boy.

A new olive addict we ordered the focaccia and olives to start before heading on to the mains. Matt had the Risotto Saffron with saffron, garlic and chilli, and I had the Fusilli Regina - pasta with mushrooms and pistachio pesto - which was every bit as delicious as it sounds!

To finish we shared the Macedonia - a fresh fruit salad marinated in Disoranno and topped with crumbled pistachio and toasted almonds.

The dessert menu could definitely do with a few more options, but for us, after stuffing our faces with bread, rice and pasta, this was the perfect light and refreshing way to finish our meal.

The rest of the menu was really impressive and the atmosphere was fantastic. We had a lovely evening and stayed for a while after dinner, sipping wine, and planning our adventures for the following day.

We found Bristol had a lot of vegan options and Aquila certainly didn't disappoint.
