Rock*ola // Brighton

Is a birthday even a birthday if it doesn't start with a fry up? Nope, that's what I thought! Which is exactly why I took Matt out for a big birthday breakfast to celebrate his 29th before heading up to Bristol.

We went to Rock*ola, an American diner with a fantastic vegan menu in Brighton's North Laine area.

Us Brits live for the full English, but I think the Americans have the right idea adding a stack of fluffy pancakes into the mix (especially on a birthday!), so we both ordered the Vegan American Style breakfast complete with 2 "bacon" rashers, 2 vegan pattie burgers, 2 hashbrowns, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes and 3 vegan pancakes with maple syrup. We both also added beans because, even with pancakes, what's breakfast without baked beans?

And forget the standard pot of English blend. With an American breakfast you have to order a big 'ol thick shake. Oreo, of course. It is America's favourite cookie after all.

With rock 'n' roll memorabilia all over the walls, 50s music booming from a retro juke box, and a vintage record shop (The Wax Factor) within the diner, Rock*ola is a unique destination to treat yo self.

Whether it's for a birthday celebration, or just a random Saturday brunch, if you're after an American vegan breakfast in Brighton that won't break the bank, but will leave you so full you'll have to undo the top button on your jeans, then I'd definitely recommend heading down to Rock*ola.

You can find Rock*ola at 28-29 Tidy Street, Brighton, BN1 4EL.
